Your mechanic tells you the motor is dying & you take it for a test drive. I hope you warped a head.

Lmao i love this video. You can tell they already decided to pull the vette engine and redo it, but they were just fing around.

When they got 130psi on the compression test they spun the motor over for about 2 seconds only. Aren't you supposed to crank it till it stops rising on the gauge? 2 or 3 seconds is not anything like long enough.

Have you thought about buying your own garage and hiring mechanics. It would have to be cheaper than financing the wizards navel fleet. You either have really bad luck buying cars, or your like kryptonite on mechanical things.

Next... reviewing your rebuild on video shows you've replaced the cooling system filling bottle with the new ignition device. I had a 66 vette I did an off frame rebuild of it. To the point... I took off hard from a stop sign, got all over it in 1st, banged second, banged 3rd and started letting off on it but it had spun off the fan belt... which I wasn't immediately aware of going 90 miles an hour, , then it overheated... again this all happened very quickly, and since I, like you, had removed that aluminum bottle... the hot coolant started spraying on my right front and rear tires (wet, slippery road on one side of the car)... which again... all happened so quickly I didn't realize it... I went into a left turn and the car instantly did a donut at around 70 miles an hour. Point is... that aluminum overflow and fill can is there for a reason! You need it back on. Believe me.
John Reed
John Reed Місяць tagasi
Not through the video yet but my guess so far is the engine was rebuilt and they didn't replace the cam bearings... hence the oil pressure problem.

150 psi is considered a good compression. Low compression is lower than 130. The cylinder should be within 10% each other. Let's check Wizard's suggested 200 psi compression once new engine is installed (to be continued)

Oh, the joys of owning a vintage Tractor, umm... Corvette. Sorry, they just drive like an effing tractor. When I was coming up in the auto world in the '60's-'70's, everybody wanted a Corvette. They were the 'chit'. THEN I worked on a few, and drove one, might as well have a Checker cab. (that is a '55 Chev w- a Checker body to the youngin') Certainly cheaper. A vintage Vette is a turd in plastic; can't steer, can't stop, and only at the best of cases, have any real power. (I will admit, the '63 Split Window IS a thing of beauty, and the ONLY 'Vette that would tempt me.) LS Swap the sucker... Then rebuilt the suspension with R&P, and some custom A-arms, etc and swap out the brakes. THEN you'll have something fun. WTF, you got 1.25 M subscribers, put out a line of LS the Blue Turd T-shirts, and you should be able to raise 100G to pay for it. God, I love EEfrom; you kids get to do what we dreamed of 40-50 years ago. Gettin' old, sucks. GeoD OH, yeah, you're now at 1.25 + 1; you got me with the comment about first starts.

I have never performed a compression check that was over 200 psi. Why is the compression on this engine supposed to be so high? An engine will run decent with just 100 psi

I blew the bottom end on my bosses 327 in his 67 corvette. I took it to a show near us and I had to trailer it home. Years of a previous owner driving it in and out of his storage and never really warming it up must have washed the bearings. Redid the motor and all happy. Letting a car sit and not driving it does it no favors.

Bet he didn't do a wet compression test, but given the low oil pressure when hot indicates a lot of wear in the bearings and driving it will only do additional damage so may as well bite the bullet and do it. Those "fixes in a can" are scams. If it's broken, nothing short of a proper repair will fix it. Seeing as you pooched the engine, I'll give you what you paid for it, even with the pooched engine. Best deal you'll get because having a classic like that comes with taking proper care of it.
Clare Ravenwood
Clare Ravenwood 2 місяці tagasi
Bet he didn't do a wet compression test on that engine. Low oil pressure when hot indicates wear in the bearings and given those compression readings, that engine is going to need a rebuild. May as well do it before further damage can be done and that will cost more. When something is broke, no repair in a can will fix it.
